“Immortals - book 1; Wild Magic”

Tamora writes differently than most authors I have read in the past, which is why I thought this book was so different and unique. When you start reading it, don’t stop! It took me a while to get used to the style of speech the book was written in, but after that, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The highlight of the story for me was the use of bow and arrows, and the communication with all different kinds of animals. (The horses in particular were my favorite.) The characters didn’t have as much of a distinctive voice as I would have liked, but still, they were very good.

Veralidaine Sarrasri, commonly called Daine, is thirteen years old. She is forced to leave home and finds a job herding ponies to the capital of Tortall with Onua. During their journey, Onua (who has her own kind of magic) finds out more of Daine and her rare abilities to communicate with the herd. They are attacked by fantasy creatures that have been imprisoned for the past 400 years in the Divine Realms and appear to have been released.  After reaching their destination everything points to Daine having wild magic. With the guidance from Numair, a shape shifter and master mage, Daine reaches farther into her mind learning more of her magic’s ability. With the fantasy creatures running loose and threatening wars, it’s up to Daine and her friends to use their special magical talents to lock the immortal creatures up again. Ranging from trolls, griffins, dragons and sea monsters this is a thrilling adventure that is a must read.

There are four of these books, so obviously, the first one doesn’t end completely. The battle was finished, but it was just the beginning. The overall outcome for the stories main issue was yet to be fixed.
