“The Dream of the Stone”

Author: Christina Askounis

I had no idea what suspense truly meant until after I read this remarkable book! The title, at first, might sound a bit cheesy and if you read the first chapters you might not be too impressed. Don’t be fooled! “The Dream of the Stone” is now one of my most favorite books in the world, for the present. When I first pulled the book off the shelf at the library and read the title I thought, “Well, I can at least give it a try.” After reading the first few chapters I felt that it wasn’t going to get any better. But, as I kept reading things began to slowly build, until you were totally entranced with the characters and their journey.

Sarah Lucas is almost fifteen; both her parents have just died suddenly in a plane crash. The only family she has left is her brother Sam. However, he has been away working at an institute called CIPHER. Sarah is distraught when she hears that she is supposed to live with her nosy, “soul prying” Aunt Herald and Uncle Bernard.  To make matters worse Sam goes missing and she feels like someone’s watching her. Soon, Sarah starts receiving mysterious visits from an old lady that speaks in riddles. Sarah’s, now ruined, life is turned around when she meets the handsome Angel Muldoon, a stable boy who is half Gypsy. Also, a deep blue stone arrives in the mail. Together Angel and Sarah will embark on an incredible journey to another world, on a mission to return the lost stone and find her brother.

Trust me; the author definitely knew what she was doing when she wrote this book. The tension that had been growing since the first pages became so amazingly frightening and breathtaking. It would definitely make a magnificent movie. After I finished reading the last page I couldn’t help but applaud the ending.  :)
