I was not too impressed with this book since
I had expected it to be filled with a lot more fantasy. It became very
interesting towards the end, but the rest of the time is spent building up to
that point. And then it ends abruptly, without completely satisfying you. There
were quite a few characters, although, not as many as “Obernewtyn”. I still had a little trouble remembering who was who. Sometimes, I felt it
dragged here and there before something interesting would happen.
Hannah is an orphan and has a strange calling
inside of her, luring her towards the seemingly magical sea. What is the secret
behind her bizarre and peculiar nature? The strange colorings in her hair and unnatural
teardrop scales appearing on legs are only a few of her symptoms. The adventure
of discovering who she is begins while working as a scullery servant for a
family of great wealth. They hire a handsome painter to paint portraits of
their daughters. After meeting him, Hannah has a suspicion that he knows
something about her, something even she has not yet discovered.
Just by reading the title and the review, I
think it would be obvious to anyone what it’s all about, not quite your
suspense mystery/fantasy right? It was
more of an easy read with a slow pace, but you might still find it to be very
interesting. The author wrote another book following this one with a new main
character. I might look into reading that one, but I’m not quite sure about it
yet.
