First of all, I want to thank everyone for
supporting me through my journey blogging. It has given me purpose in
everything I read, and something to look forward to.
The “Lost Island of Tamarind” was
unpredictable throughout the entire story. One page you will be wandering in
circles through a dense jungle and meeting an extremely crazed scientist the
next. You can’t even guess what will
happen next with so many things surprising you, it was nuts! (I liked that.) There
was a wide variety of characters and an even bigger variety of unexpected
elements that happened along the journey. The main character (Maya) was easy
for me to relate to. Plus, the cover of
this book was bright and colorful making it eye catching and delightful to gaze
at.
Meet thirteen year old Maya, and her younger
siblings, twelve year old Simon and eight- month old Penny. They have lived
their whole lives aboard a ship called Pamela
Jane. Their parents are marine biologists and they constantly sail the wide
open oceans. Maya is getting older and
is no longer happy living in a floating house with just her family and the
horizon as company. She longs for a permanent home on solid ground and prefers
to attend a public school with lots of kids her age. Just as she thinks she is going to get her
wish, something unexpected happens. Her parents are washed overboard in a
terrible storm! The kids hope to find land and get a search and rescue effort
started to locate their parents. But, when they arrive on a strange island,
things don’t go at all as they had planned.
They encounter carnivore vines, deadly jaguars, flying fish, and Maya suddenly has
a much harder time protecting baby Penny and watching out for Simon! With help
from a suspicious new friend, Helix, Maya, Simon and Penny make their way
through Greater Tamarind and discover some important information as well.
I found out that there is going to be a
sequel for “The Lost Island of Tamarind” called “Secrets of Tamarind”. Thank goodness, because there was a “what if”
at the end. All in all, it was a great read and it is now one of my most
favorite books. I highly recommend “The Lost Island of Tamarind”.
