After reading “Wolf Speaker” I was a little
disappointed because I really enjoyed the first book “Wild Magic”. It was still
very interesting, but it wasn’t as good as I had expected. There was less
action with more mystery in the plot that took its time being solved. It wasn’t until the end that it actually picked
up pace and became exciting.
Dunlath Valley is being destroyed, and the
wolves are becoming worried. The humans, who are digging holes, cutting down
trees and bringing in hideous immortals, are driving away the animals which
provide the wolves with food! So, their only hope is to call upon their old
friend Daine, who was once a part of their pack long ago. She is human and can
understand animals providing them with the perfect translator. The wolves want
her to relay a message to the destructive humans of what catastrophe they are
laying upon the animals and their homes. But the people prove to be a tough
crowd and the purpose for their ruckus is still unknown. Daine soon gets
trapped on the inside of a mysterious new barrier now surrounding the valley, separating
her from her teacher and master mage Numair. With the willing help from a wide
variety of animals, Daine practices her wild magic, putting her mind into
theirs. This allowed her to discover all the inside secrets without being
discovered herself. The armies begin to assemble outside the shield ready to arrest
the people responsible for the evil plans. But, no one can do anything until
the barrier is broken. It’s all up to Daine and her friends, the only ones on
the inside, to help.
Slow, but interesting, this book was alright.
I am not sure if I would recommend it as much as the first, but if you have
read the first, or plan on it, you might not want to get your hopes up for this
one. Of course, there are two more books in the series, so again the main issue
has yet to be solved. Who knows, maybe
the next books will turn out better.
