“Red Riding Hood”

Author: Sarah Blakley-Cartwright

First off, this is NOT your typical “Little Red Riding Hood” story. It’s definitely much more exciting and thrilling, rather than your common wolf, it was a Werewolf. I was not expecting to like the story, but instead I really enjoyed it! It’s now one of my favorites. When I started reading the book, I literally couldn’t put it down and finished it in six hours straight. The characters were lovable, and the mystery was a bit frightening and horrific to some degree.

Valerie is just like any other girl living in the small town of Daggerhorn, with a father, mother and younger sister. Her childhood friend, Peter, returns to their village one day after disappearing with his father. Valerie and Peter’s simple childhood friendship soon begins to blossom into love. But Valerie finds out later that her parents have arranged for her to marry the blacksmith, Henry, whom she has no care for. Amidst her challenging love life, her small town of Daggerhorn is plagued by a wolf. For years everyone has lived in fear of it, leaving livestock tied out in the open to keep the wolf from their families, and children. But, when the wolf strikes, everyone is in an uproar. The people in Daggerhorn are all suspecting one another and Valerie can’t trust anyone…Who is the wolf and what does it want?

The major motion picture that was made from the book was surprisingly good as well. Comparing the movie to the book, obviously the movie doesn’t give you as much detail, but they still did a wonderful job on it. I loved the movie and the book both very much, and I would definitely recommend them, as long as you’re okay with mild gore and perilous situations.
(Warning: There is a scene of sensuality that would be inappropriate for a younger audience.)
