The format this book was written in was a lot
like “Shiver”. Both main character voices were written in first person taking
turns throughout the story. The genre was half medieval and half mystery. There
wasn’t enough action in the medieval part. However, I would definitely have to say,
the mystery was mysteriously well
done. (Get it! LOL)
There hasn’t been a “knight - errant” (A
wandering knight in search of adventure and quests), in over two hundred years
and Sir Michael plans to bring it back. He finds himself a young man named Fisk
to accompany him as his squire, on the many adventures Michael plans to take.
Their first mission is the classic, rescuing the damsel in distress. But things
turn upside down. They let loose a criminal! They find out that the Lady Ceciel
was held captive in a tower for poisoning her husband and was awaiting her
trial. Now, they must venture out on a quest to find her and right their wrong,
or else. It isn’t easy for our would-be “heroes”, as they hurdle their way past
the many obstacles thrown at them. Things like: a wild boar attack, forced
labor as crewmen, life threatening illness and imprisonment.
It was interesting and kept me reading, but I
would have liked a better ending. For the “Last Knight” their depth of voice was
well done but, I have read better. Occasionally, I found it to be a bit amusing
and entertaining, but it needed more action. I would recommend this book if it
had a faster pace.
