“Iron Fey - book 2; Iron Daughter”

Author: Julie Kagawa

The plot line in “Iron Daughter” was much better than the first book, “Iron King”. If you read my previous review on “Iron King” you would know that the plot was very predictable. But I can’t say that for “Iron Daughter”, which surprised me a great deal. All the main characters from the last book returned to create another wonderful and epic adventure that kept you on the edge of your pages. Plus, some new characters were added giving it a feeling of newness. I just love the characters that Julie comes up with because there is so much variety; their unique personalities make reading her stories so enjoyable.

Meghan Chase has been kept prisoner by the Winter “faery” queen and to make matters worse Meghan’s new found fey powers have become strangely out of her reach. When the powerful scepter is stolen, a dispute between the Summer and Winter courts quickly immerges. Meghan and the Winter prince are the only ones who know that the real danger comes from the ironbound “faeries” that only they have seen. But, the Winter prince, who Meghan thought had loved her, deserts her.  Meghan is left to stand up to the “faery” queen on her own; however, the queen doesn’t believe a word she says. Setting out on a perilous journey, Meghan meets up with some old friends and new friends as well as crossing the unwanted paths of their enemies. Jumping between two worlds and discovering the in-between, Meghan Chase will face some difficult decisions; some that could lead to the death of her beloved friends and family.

Filled with all kinds of strange fantasy creatures, the entire book was an action packed adventure. But in between the violent and sometimes graphic scenes, was quite a bit of romance and comedy; this created a satisfying combination of themes. The moods and feelings filling the story can sometimes be dark and depressing, but they usually lighten up at some point or another. The story came to a satisfying close, and set up for a new journey that awaits us.
