Being the second book, I did not expect it to
be just as good, if not better, than the first! The story line on the second
book continued off the first and it was great! I felt that “Elissa’s Odyssey”
built upon the character personalities from “Elissas’ Quest” and improved them.
Not only were there more characters added into the cast, but they were very
colorful and created a variety of interests.
Elissa
journeys across the scorching desert with Maya and her trusty animal friends
Gertrude and Ralph. They travel through the city Alhamazar where its river
flows to the ocean. With exciting plans to catch a ship and get home to
Gravesport, Elissa accidentally gets separated from her friends. She becomes lost in the enormous city. When a cooking job aboard a rickety ship
called the Swamp Maiden, is offered, she accepts, knowing the destination
of the voyage will reunite her with her friends. But, the voyage takes longer
than she expected and they also meet up with dangers that slow them down
further. With the colorful crew of the Swamp
Maiden and mysterious new friends, Elissa turns out to be more help to them
than she thought.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story,
although, not much about her inner mystery was discovered, it was still
exciting. I am anticipating the third and final book more than ever, because,
so far, Erica Verrillo’s Phoenix Rising Trilogy has been a joy to read!
