I was disappointed with this book because I
was hoping that it would have more adventure, thrills and magic….but it was
nowhere near my expectations. The Brothers Grimm had some pretty frightening
stories and this book being the “Grimm” legacy, you would think that it would
be a little more interesting. The story wasn’t like that at all, it was slow,
took place in practically a single building, and towards the end just started
getting weird to the point of it being unbelievable. Soooo unbelievable that I
almost lost interest in the book. The characters voices were even a little
bland to me.
Elizabeth accepts a new job working at the
New-York Circulating Material Repository. But she was not prepared for what her
job at the library really does. It lends objects rather than books! That’s
right, anything you can think of from items belonging to History’s most famous
people to everyday items in your home. But the most interesting of all the
collections is the one in the library’s secret basement, the Grimm collection.
The items in the Grimm Collection consist of powerful and magical objects from
the actual horrific Brothers Grimm stories. If in the hands of the wrong person
it could be dangerous. And that is just what is happening. Someone is stealing
from the Grimm Collection and replacing them with fakes. Elizabeth and her new
friends set out on a mission to return the items before someone innocent gets
blamed or hurt. But when a member of their sleuthing group disappears is it too
late? From shrink ray machines to the magic mirror in snow white’s fairytale,
this is quite the adventure.
The ending was satisfying, that is if you
liked the story in the first place. For me it was just too weird and kinda
boring, and if any action happened, I was frowning at it thinking, “What on
earth?” It was definitely different from anything else I’ve read before, but I
don’t think I would want to read it again. But, some of you might have a taste
for elements of strange happenings or bizarre craziness. If that’s the case
than you might like it, I personally don’t care for that kind of thing.
