When I started reading this book I was
anticipating a journey filled with heart racing adventure, like the last two
books. My wish was granted after reading the first page. Her books seem to get
better and better the more they progress, and the world becomes a bit more
extravagant with each chapter. Pasted on both sides of the pages were strange iron
beings and mystical fantasy creatures all waiting to pop out of their world
into yours. Sometimes the moods and feelings would become a bit dark, and the
fight scenes were normally a bit graphic or painful to “watch”, but it was
never permanent. They helped to add excitement which is something I enjoy, and
usually a beacon of humor was provided by one of my favorite characters,
“Puck”. In fact, each character
possessed his/her personal unique quality, with a voice that expressed it. From
book one I had fallen in love with all of them and throughout the series of
books my enthusiasm for their feelings and journeys has only grown without a
doubt.
Both banished forever from the Nevernever,
Meghan and Ash set out to stay with her family. Meghan has even created plans
to gain the lost memories of her father back. But things quickly go wrong; the
false iron king is seeking her and has his iron minions out hunting her down.
Meanwhile in the Nevernever, the enemy courts of Summer and Winter, agree to
join forces against the iron poison that is spreading in their world. When all
hope seems terribly lost, they turn to Meghan for help. They offer to lift her banishment
in exchange for her to journey deep into the heart of the dark iron realm, and
defeat the false iron king. But Meghan still can’t control her own “glamour”
and when she attempts it she becomes weak and nauseous. Should she fail, all
hopes will be lost to save the Nevernever. With loyal Ash and witty Puck glued by
her side, Meghan embarks on yet another quest. Along the way she learns from
Ash a dark secret and unravels the mystery behind her “glamour”.
Once again, heartwarming romance and action
violence are somehow at harmony with each other through Julie Kagawas writing. When
I neared the climax of the book, I prepared myself for the glorious victory of
the good guys and a happily ever after for the heroes. I nearly threw the book in outrage when I had
discovered I needed to wait for yet another
book. The fourth book, “The Iron Knight” won’t be released until October 25. I
like these books and I would love to read another adventure but I guess I’m
going to have to learn a bit of patients before I can put my mind to rest. And
even when “The Iron Knight” is released who is to say that it will end
completely?
