If you read my previous review for,
“Daughters of the Sea: Hannah”, you would know that I didn’t care for it much.
So, that left my expectations low for the second book. Although, I have to say
the second book impressed me. The writing wasn’t superb, although better than
the first, however the characters were well rounded which was good. I felt that
“May” was more interesting and then surprised me when it entwined to the ending
of “Hannah”. Yes, it related, even
though it focuses on a different main character you still need to read “Hannah”
first, before reading “May”.
Mabel, (May), has grown up all her life
caring for her constantly ill mother and helping her father in the lighthouse.
Her whole body longs to be in the salty ocean water, but her father forbids it.
After unlocking a discovery concerning her birth, she challenges herself to
learn more. In the hopes of putting the puzzle pieces together, May studies the
ocean winds and currents. Along the way, she also battles an inward war with
the guy she likes. Should she tell him the truth? Would he still like her if
she did? And what about the similar looking girl named Hannah? As the clues slowly come together she will
embark on a journey that could change the course of her life.
The ending was very good, but still left
plenty of room for the sequel that has yet to be made. And now I have to take
back what I said about “Hannah’s” ending, because the second book mended it. I
actually like “Hannah’s” ending more than before since there is a purpose for
it. But, when you read it I will leave the decision of whether it was good or
not up to you.
