~Opening
Thoughts~
I wanted
so badly to love this book. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this one fell even
farther into boredom than the one before it. I had no idea a book could literally
go nowhere with the only movement being that of verbal conversation, deadly
illnesses, and history lessons. Pretty much half
of the book takes place in a single location. (I’m talking a single room, not a
building) Slow paced and leaning dangerously towards dull… I don’t know why I’m
still reading this series? I want to see the “Evil Villain”/“Possibly Hero”
take action! I want to see the Wizards confess to their crimes! (Guilty I say!)
The thieves running through the streets are up to something! I want to see
soooo much happen!!! With that noted, I will be reading the 4th and
final book, in hopes that all this long dialogue and plotting created will end
in a satisfying bang. Just DO IT!
Summary:
“Han
Alister thought he had already lost everyone he loved. But when he finds his
friend Rebecca Morley near death in the Spirit Mountains, Han knows that
nothing matters more than saving her life. The costs of his efforts are steep.
Still, nothing can prepare him for what he soon discovers: the beautiful,
mysterious girl he knew as Rebecca is none other than Raisa ana’marianna, heir
to the queendom of the Fells. Han is hurt and betrayed. He knows he has no
future with a blueblood. And, as far as he’s concerned, the princess’s family
as good as killed his own mother and sister. But if Han is to fulfill his end
of an old bargain, he must do everything in his power to see Raisa crowned as
queen.
Meanwhile,
some people will stop at nothing to prevent Raisa from ascending. With each
attempt on her life, she wonders how long it will be before her enemies
succeed. Her heart tells her that the thief-turned-wizard Han Alister can be
trusted. She wants to believe it- he’s saved her life more than once. But with
danger coming at her from every direction, Raisa can only rely on her wits and
her iron-hard will to survive- and even that might not be enough.”
~In Closing~
Again, I
truly wanted to enjoy this book. Save for a few small ambushes from the enemy
here and there, the last few chapters did finally peak my interest as our
characters decided to take some course of action. For the most part, however, it
definitely does a good job of making you feel like you’re a member of the
Queens council since you got to listen to EVERYTHING. There is a pinch of
mystery thrown within the plot, (“Mystery” Bonus Points!) …although sadly, this
tends to get lost or buried beneath political standings. Again, I have no idea
why I’m still reading this series, (Oh Yeah! Book 1 was AMAZING) but satisfying
or not, making it to the end will be an accomplishment all on its’ own.
* If
you’re going to read this series, you have to read it as an imaginary world incredibly
rich with politics, and only a few spurts of excitement to keep you intrigued.
