Author: Kimberly Derting
Thrills, chills and romance just blossomed
off the pages. I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat with the suspense
of the mystery and the anticipation of the romance. I don’t enjoy reading about
modern day high school issues and problems, but this book wasn’t so bad in that
area. It was pretty clean, except for one scene, where the students party late
drinking alcohol. (However, there is an important lesson to be learned.) I was
very pleased with the support the main character got from her parents. In most
books, the parents act as if their children don’t exist or the parents died in
some kind of horrible, tragic accident.
The
Chills:
Violet Ambrose was born with the ability to
sense echoes that murdered lives leave behind and the imprints that cling to
the killer responsible. From a young age, her abilities caused her to find and
uncover the horrific dead bodies of both animals and people. Now, her
frightening power just might be put to good use. A serial killer is roaming her
small town, killing many innocent lives. Nobody has a clue to who this
dangerous person is. Violet, following the recently murdered girls haunting
echoes, takes finding the killer into her own hands putting her life in danger.
The
Romance:
Ever since childhood Violet and Jay have been
the best of friends. He even knows about her unnerving power. But now, growing up into high school, Violet
has stronger feelings toward Jay. Now with the serial killer on the hunt, Jay
has become overly protective of her. Violet desperately hopes that his
intentions toward her might be a sign that he wants to be more than just
friends.
I was surprised at how well the author
portrayed their feelings because the whole book was written in third person.
Even though the main characters didn’t have strong personality in their voices,
I was still able to understand and relate to their feelings. The ending was
very satisfying, and I wouldn’t mind reading it again. It doesn’t make it on my
list of favorite books, but if you were looking for a scary suspenseful mystery
with a bit of sweet romance along the way, I would definitely recommend it.
